With its original rig (slab reefing), Enterprise required quite a bit of deck work and we were very conscious of the safety considerations after our first storm. Non slip decks were essential and ever since the coach roof and deck have been coated with International Paints Interdeck. Secondly, there is no position on the boat where you cannot reach a secure handhold or anchor point. Jack stays can be rigged down each side of the deck from the Sampson post to the stern to act as running anchors for safety harness.

Specifically;- Railings were installed around the mast (these could be removed now that we have roller reefing but they give such a sense of security if emergency work has to be done around the mast that we have left them);
The gap between the wooden coach roof handrails and the stern of the hood has been filled in by installing handholds on the front of the hood; a s. s. handrail has been installed on the trailing edge of the hood; a grab rail has been installed on the steering post for the helmsman; there are harness anchorage points on each side of the cockpit with harnesses; substantial handrails have been installed around the cabin entrance for safe entry and egress in rough conditions; there are non-slip finishes on the cabin stairs; lifelines, pedestals and bases were new in 2009.
